Snows BMW Golf Player Earns Place at National Final of the BMW International Golf Cup

The prestigious BMW International Golf Cup sees over 100,000 amateur golfers from around the world compete, and it all begins at tournaments organised by local BMW dealerships. On Tuesday 5th July, the Regional Final was held at The Grove, Hertfordshire (home of the 2016 European Tour British Masters and voted Number One Golf Resort in England by Golf Monthly) where Darren Theron from the Snows Portsmouth Golf Team putted his way to success.

The journey began with qualifying rounds hosted by Lee on the Solent Golf Club and Hayling Island Golf Club, both of which Snows BMW Portsmouth is a longstanding partner. At The Grove, Maggie Domican (with her caddie Elaine Taylor), David Cox, Jamie Leggett, Elaine Taylor, and Darren Theron took part in the Regional Final against one hundred other golfers, all of whom were trying to earn a place in the National Final, to be held at St. Andrews Links in September. Darren succeeded in becoming runner up, meaning that he will be rewarded with the fantastic opportunity of competing at the Scottish club, where golf has been played for 600 years.

The Regional Final also saw the competitors meeting and playing a hole with Dame Laura Davies, England’s most accomplished female golfer of modern times, having won the Ladies European Tour (LET) Order of Merit seven times. She attended the event as part of an unforgettable “Beat the Pro” competition, which the entire Snows BMW golf team will look back on for years to come.

St. Andrews Links is comprised of almost 300 hectares, providing an excellent experience which golfers from many miles around travel to enjoy. In fact, in excess of 230,000 rounds of golf are played at St. Andrews each year. This is hardly surprising considering the facilities on offer, including seven courses, a Golf Academy with over 60 practice bays, and the Tom Morris Shop – the oldest golf shop in the world.

The Open Championship has been played on the Old Course at St. Andrews Links 29 times, which is more than any other venue.

Soon, Darren will be on his way there to compete in the National Final of the BMW International Golf Cup, where a place in the World Final in Dubai is up for grabs. Golfers from approximately fifty countries compete in the Cup overall, with Finals historically held at respected golf courses all over the world, including Australia, Thailand, South Africa, and Singapore. We wish Darren the best of luck in the competition, and we look forward to hearing about how he gets on!
