With increased overall dimensions and an even bolder presence than ever before, the New Leon builds on the appeal of its predecessor but with a stronger, more purposeful character, aided by improved aesthetics and smooth flowing surfaces. Creativity continues through to the rear thanks to all-new coast-to-coast LED taillights, adding to the dynamic design.
Inside, the updated interior is the pinnacle of functionality and minimalism. The smooth-surfaced dashboard gives the appearance of weightlessness and is surrounded by wraparound ambient lighting across the entire width, through to the doors. The cabin has been completely redesigned for optimum comfort and everything within reach has been decluttered right down to the number of physical buttons on the centre console.
The New SEAT Leon estate also provides a total boot capacity of 617 litres; 30 litres more than the previous generation model. See for yourself at your nearest Snows SEAT showroom.
All models in the range benefit from KESSY keyless entry, two USB ports in the front, Automatic High Beam, electric and heated wing mirrors, an electric parking brake, SEAT Connect technology and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen system. Upgrade one trim level higher, to SE Dynamic, and the New Leon estate will offer the SEAT Digital Cockpit with Navi and an upgraded 10-inch touchscreen.
The New Leon ST also features CarX2 connectivity – a cloud-based technology that enables drivers to receive advanced warning on the status of upcoming traffic lights, whether they’re about to turn green or red, or an incident on a motorway further up the road, with traffic information appearing in real-time on screen. Away from the vehicle, users can also remotely access driving data such as miles covered, remaining range, parking position and to lock or unlock doors.
The engines can be coupled to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG (direct shift gearbox) transmission and models that use the DSG automatic transmission now benefit from shift-by-wire technology. This not only enhances efficiency but also offers a more engaging drive.
SEAT will also expand its line-up of electrified vehicles with a plug-in hybrid electric version of the Leon. A 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine electric motor, 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack and six-speed DSG transmission combine to produce 150kW/204PS of power and is recharged via a 3.6kW AC inlet. New Leon can be fully charged from 0% in less than 3.5 hours. The plug-in hybrid version also allows users to drive via electric power only, emitting no emissions and giving a usable range of 60km (38 miles) – perfect for cities where air quality regulations are stricter.
Bringing together predictive Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Emergency Assist 3.0, the new SEAT Leon offers optimum protection to all occupants.
To maintain safety and meet legal requirements, the driver must continually monitor the system and their surroundings, keeping at least one hand on the steering wheel. If the vehicle senses that the driver has taken both hands off the wheel for more than 15 seconds, they will receive audible and visual warnings. A braking jolt can be given. If the driver continues to fail to respond, the Emergency Assist 3.0 system can bring the Leon to a complete stop.
