The Movano Electric, Vauxhall’s critically regarded full-size panel van, becomes an especially enticing proposition in pure-electric form. The Movano Electric is just as impressive-looking as its combustion-engine sibling and it’s available in a wide range of configurations. It delivers class-leading load space (as much as 17,000 litres), it can be selected in L1, L2, L3 and L4 wheelbase lengths and H1, H2 and H3 heights. It also offers a payload of up to 2,100kg and can be chosen in three or seven-seat guise. Whichever version you decide upon, it’ll be fitted with nearside sliding doors and dual-opening rear doors, making access to the load bay as easy as can be.
The Movano Electric is furnished with a four-speaker stereo, featuring an AM/FM tuner and DAB digital radio, with broadcast signals boosted by a roof-mounted aerial. Connectivity is provided by a USB port, and the inclusion of Bluetooth means you can stream your favourite audio content while making and receiving hands-free phone calls. A five-inch colour touchscreen provides access to the aforementioned sound system (which can also be operated via steering wheel-mounted controls) and satellite navigation system, which is also a standard-issue inclusion.
Furthermore, the van offers the comfort of air-conditioning and the convenience of a cooling glove box, the ideal place to keep a can or two of your favourite soft drink chilled.
Drives like a dream
The Vauxhall Movano Electric is exceptionally easy to drive, partly because of its car-derived platform but also thanks to its single-speed electronic drive selector. This means there’s no need to switch between gears because the options are simplified, allowing you to select D (Drive), N (Neutral) or R (Reverse).
The van’s 37kWh/70kWh electric motor is powered by a 90kW battery, offering ranges of up to 72/ 139 miles while producing 118bhp and 350Nm of torque. What’s more, the Movano Electric produces zero CO2 emissions and is much more affordable to run than a similarly sized fuel-driven van. The battery can be charged by using a domestic three-pin power source or with a rapid-charging wall box (which can be installed at home or at work). It can also be topped up by making use of one of many public charging stations situated around the UK.
Class-leading safety
For a vehicle in its class, the Vauxhall Movano Electric offers exceptional safety thanks to the inclusion of a wide range of passive and active protective technologies. A driver’s airbag and seatbelt reminders are just two of this van’s in-cabin features, while driver aids include Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill-start Assist (HSA). ESP monitors skidding motions while actively working to counteract them, thus providing the driver with greater control on less-than-perfect surfaces. HSA, meanwhile, is an invaluable tool whenever the van is started on an incline, preventing unwanted vehicular rolling.
The Movano Electric is fitted with a full-height steel bulkhead, which presents an implacable barrier between travellers and the contents of the load bay. The van features daytime running lights too, ensuring that it remains easily visible to other road users.
