He joined as a mechanic at the tender age of 15 – and is still the mechanic of choice at the same vehicle workshop 25 years on. Dave Boltwood’s dedication to servicing Mazda cars has seen him receive a UK award for technical excellence for a second consecutive year.
To date, Dave, 40, has maintained and serviced upwards of 100,000 vehicles since starting out at Mazda Portfield in Chichester, West Sussex, in 1993. In recognition of his expertise, Mazda UK presented Dave, who also works on the service desk, with the award for Outstanding Technical Excellence at what is now Snows Mazda Chichester. Dave - affectionately nicknamed Bolty by colleagues – was selected from 33 Mazda dealerships across the nation.
Stephen Snow, Snows Group Chairman, said: “This is the second year on the trot that Dave has been officially credited by Mazda UK for his expertise, passion and determination. “Dave, a credit to the Snows and Mazda brands, thoroughly deserves his award. Mazda UK, as part of the judging criteria, also took into account the positive customer experiences at Snows Mazda Chichester, as well as online reviews. Customer service and car servicing are indistinguishable these days – and rightly so.”
Dave, who lives in Bognor Regis, said: “It’s an honour to receive the award twice in a row. I’m in my 25th year here and still love the job as much as I did when I joined as a teenager – you can’t beat the sense of pride in handing over cars which are back to their mechanical best. Whilst us technicians have sophisticated diagnostic computers these days, knowing about the nuts and bolts of how a car works, is just as important. Some things don’t change.”
Snows acquired Portfield in January 2018.
Mazda models include Mazda2, Mazda3, New Mazda6, 2018 Mazda CX-3, 2018 Mazda CX-5 and Mazda MX-5, which has been named WhatCar? Car of the Year 2018- Best Convertible.
