Peugeot electric vehicles frequently asked questions

Peugeot Electric & Hybrid Frequently Asked Questions

Below we answer your frequently asked questions about the Peugeot electric and hybrid range.

What are the benefits of buying and driving an electric vehicle rather than a petrol or diesel vehicle?

Peugeot electric and hybrid vehicles provide many fantastic benefits, including smooth and quiet driving, no vibrations while driving, no smell, no gear changes and potential savings on fuel and maintenance costs.

How to choose between a 100% electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid vehicle?

Deciding between choosing a full electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid vehicle is determined by your driving preferences and lifestyle.

Electric cars rely completely on electric batteries and must be charged through electric wallboxes or public charging stations to gain power. However, most drivers who use their electric car for less than 30 miles a day typically drive on one full charge per week.

A hybrid vehicle gets its power from electricity and petrol. This can occur when fully hybrid vehicles charge their electric batteries via the petrol engine while driving. However, plug-in hybrid vehicles have to be plugged into an electric port to charge their electric batteries.

Both electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles can be charged through home wallboxes or public chargers across the country, so you can choose which is best for you and your journey.

How much does it cost to charge an electric vehicle at home?

The price of charging an electric vehicle is calculated based on the price per kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity. The consumption can vary based on multiple factors, such as the model, the type of journey you made and the weather conditions. However, the price per kilometre of an electric car charging at home is around 4 times lower than that of a petrol or diesel vehicle.

Can the battery of my electric vehicle be replaced?

If you subscribe to a service plan for your electric or hybrid vehicle, they will check your electric battery and ensure it's in the best health. A service plan includes:

What is the range of an electric Peugeot vehicle?

If equipped with a 50 kWh battery, the Peugeot electric range offers a maximum power of 100kW and allows you to travel up to 225 miles WLTP on a full charge.

How can I optimise the operating range of my vehicle?

Your electric vehicle range is impacted by a range of driving factors, such as the state of charge of your battery, driving speed, frequency of acceleration, the load carried and the types of roads you drive on. Driving in eco driving mode can help maximise the range of your electric car.

Why is my electric driving range lower during the winter or when it's cold?

Peugeot electric and hybrid vehicles are made with lithium-ion batteries need positive temperatures to maintain their efficiency. The motor heats the batteries, so when it is outside in the cold, it can impact this temperature.

How can you charge your electric or hybrid vehicle?

There are multiple ways to charge an electric or hybrid vehicle, making it easy for you to adapt it to your lifestyle.

- Home or private charging - you can use a domestic socket, high-power socket or a dedicated wall-box.

- Public charging - there are more than 48,000 charging points across the UK, and 250,000 Peugeot-compatible charging stations across Europe. This makes it ideal for longer driving journeys or if you can't install a home wall-box for whatever reason.

How long does it take to charge my electric Peugeot car?

Charging times can change depending on the power of the charging station and the charging cable you choose to use, the weather conditions and the charge level on your battery. However, if you use a wallbox or a standard domestic socket, these are the slowest charging options available, compared to a rapid or fast charger found in wallboxes or public charging points, which can charge your car in as little as 30 minutes.

Can I check the electric charge of my Peugeot vehicle remotely?

Download the MyPeugeot app on IOS and Android, and the e-Command services allow you to start charging remotely or schedule the charge when it best suits you. You can also monitor in real time the speed of your charge and when it should finish charging. If the vehicle suddenly stops charging, the app will also notify you.

When is it best to charge an electric car?

When charging an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle at home, we recommend charging during off-peak hours (between 9:30 pm to 7:30 am and 12 noon and 4 pm) for potentially lower costs.

Fitting a home wall-box can save you time and is more convenient in the long run, compared to using only public charging stations.

How much maintenance is there with an electric vehicle?

An electric car motor is less complicated and have less parts, compared to a combustion engine, so what is required from a service is smaller. For example, oil changes, timing belt changes and spark plug changes are no longer needed.

If your car has a regenerative braking system, the wear on brake pads and discs is minimised.

How frequently do you need a service on a Peugeot electric car?

Peugeot electric cars require less maintenance than a combustion-engine vehicle as there are no more oil changes, oil filters, clutch requirements and more. This means you need fewer services.

In the My Peugeot app, there is a virtual service booklet that can show you the recommended service schedule for your vehicle. The data that the app needs to do this is:

- Current mileage, average mileage and information on how you use your car (personal or business)

- Details of any maintenance carried out

If you have Connected Navigation and Digital Service record activated, then this will already be in the app. However, if this isn't available for you, then you will need to add this data into the app manually. Digital Service Record is a free service, so if you would like to activate yours, make an appointment with us, and we will be happy to help.
