Sparks Fly for BMWi Electric Week

Recently, we posted about Going Electric for Go Green Week, and hinted at the approaching BMWi Electric Week.

We are now pleased to announce that BMWi Electric Week has arrived, and it promises to be a charged event with some exciting opportunities! From Saturday 20th February to Sunday 28th February, Snows BMW Portsmouth will be hosting a series of events, including an Electric Showroom Weekend (Saturday 20th – Sunday 21st February), a Local Business Day (Thursday 25th February), and a Ride and Drive Day (Saturday 27th February) where interested parties will be able to discover what it’s like to drive an electric vehicle.

The BMW i3 represents the future of driving

On Partnership Day, Wednesday 24th February, Snows BMW Portsmouth will be joining up with its partners at the New Theatre Royal to offer a sustainability-themed lunch. The theatre provides a beautiful setting for an evening of entertainment, as it has recently re-opened following a multi-million pound refurbishment. The partnership between Snows and the New Theatre Royal is an ongoing success; the debut partnership event, the MINI Clubman launch, went down a storm, and BMWi Electric Week will be no different. The theatre will be lit up green in tribute to the environmental benefits of electric driving, which significantly reduces the release of emissions into the atmosphere.

Not only is electric driving better for the environment, but it’s better for your pocket, too. The government offers a Plug-In Car Grant (PICG) which can assist drivers of electric vehicles with financial output, up to the value of £5,000 (or £4,500 from 1st March 2016).

The amount granted is dependent on the amount of CO2 emitted by the vehicle, split into three categories:

  • Category 1 – CO₂ emissions of less than 50g/km and a zero emission range of at least 70 miles
  • Category 2 – CO₂ emissions of less than 50g/km and a zero emission range between 10 and 69 miles
  • Category 3 – CO₂ emissions of 50 to 75g/km and a zero emission range of at least 20 miles

This money will come off the basic price of the car, up to £5,000 regardless of category.

However, from 1st March 2016 this will change, and the maximum grant will be £4,500 in Category 1, and £2,500 in Categories 2 or 3.

BMWi Electric Week is an ideal opportunity to #BecomeElectric and discover more about the benefits of electric driving before the grant changes.
