Volvo has a wide selection of electric cars available, ranging from SUVs, saloons, and crossovers, making them ideal for all types of drivers.

In the electric line up are:

• EX90 – Large SUV – Leading the way of electric driving with its smartness, safety and power. Equipped with Safe Space Technology, it protects drivers, passengers, and other road users from accidents. Offering a long-range battery with fast charging, it is ideal for long journeys across the country for family holidays.

• ES90 – Saloon – Providing regenerative braking and an outstanding range of 700 km, offering maximum efficiency.

• EX40 – Compact SUV – Quick charging, battery pre-conditioning, regenerative braking and charging reminders. Great for city roads.

• EC40 – Compact SUV – With the attitude of a sports car, with best-in-class performance, it offers efficiency with style. Fast charging, smooth acceleration, and charging reminders for ease.

• EX30 – Compact SUV – Smallest SUV, but still offers a great electric range and zero tailpipe emissions.

How Do Electric Cars Work? 

Instead of using fuel to power the engine, electric cars are powered by a battery pack and an electric motor. As you press the accelerator, the car gains electric from the battery to the motor, turning the wheels without the need for another source.

This does not burn fuel or produce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

They need to be charged using an AC or DC power source, depending on your car.

How To Charge an Electric Car?

Electric charging is starting to become easier, thanks to the popularity of electric and hybrid vehicles.

There are three ways you can charge an electric car, which are:

• Wall Chargers – You can charge your electric car by using a usual wall socket you will find at your home or commercial business. Though this is the slowest option, it does help when you can’t access other charging solutions.

• Wall Box – You can install a wall box into your home or commercial business. Volvo has their wallbox coming soon, which provides quick and convenient ways of charging your car. Sync the wall box to the Volvo app so you can schedule when your car charges, so it is ready when you need it.

• Public Charger Stations – You can find public chargers at supermarkets, gyms, businesses, car parksor service stations on the motorway. There will either be rapid chargers (or DC chargers) or Destination chargers (or AC chargers).

How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Car?

Charging an electric car can take different times depending on what type of charger you are using, the conditions outside and your model and trim.

However, you should expect each charger type to take:

Three-pin Power Source – Typically takes up to 36 hours, depending on your car’s battery size.

Wallbox – Typically takes a few hours to fully charge your car, depending on the car’s battery size, your current charge level and weather conditions.

Rapid Chargers – Can reach up to 80% in approximately 22 minutes, depending on your model.

Destination Chargers – Can take around 4 hours to charge, depending on kW and model. 

How Much Does It Cost to Charge an Electric Car?

Owning an electric or hybrid car should save you some money over a longer period of time, compared to owning a petrol or diesel vehicle.Especially if you charge your Volvo at home during off-peak hours.

Do Electric Cars Need a Service and MOT?

It is a legal requirement for all cars over the age of three to have an MOT test. This includes electric and hybrid vehicles.

During the MOT, the majority of the components in an EV vehicle will be tested in order to check that the vehicle is safe for the roads and adheres to current emissions regulations.The only differenceis that EV vehicles don’t have an exhaust system; they don’trequireemissions and noise tests.

Following a regular servicing schedule for EV vehicles is still highly recommended to ensure your car is in the best condition for the roads. Servicing an electric car can include software diagnostics, battery health tests, suspension checks and general checks into brakes, tyres, fluid levels and the windscreen.
