Unlike the BMW X3’s engine line-up, the X4’s selection is limited to four options - three diesels and one high-performance petrol. The range opens with the X4 xDrive20d with a 187bhp 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 48-volt mild hybrid assistance. Following that is the xDrive30d option, which uses a turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel engine developing 282bhp. 0-62mph takes 5.7 seconds and top speed is 152mph, while fuel economy stands at up to 46.3mpg with CO2 of 159g/km depending on specification.
The M40d is the top of the range diesel option, using the same 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine as the xDrive30d, it generates 335bhp and 700Nm and takes just 4.9 seconds from 0-62mph.
At the top of the line-up is the X4 M40i, which sits beneath the new BMW X4 M.
