What Is Toyota Safety Sense?

When buying a new or used Toyota car, you may notice a range of innovative safety features which have been designed to make driving easier and safer for you and others who use the road.

As years go on, Toyota have upgraded and advanced its safety features, making the motorway, city and parking safer.

One of these safety features is Toyota Safety Sense.

What Is Toyota Safety Sense?

Toyota Safety Sense combines a range of safety features built into a Toyota car to advance your driving experience on the roads.

What Is Included In Toyota Safety Sense?

There are many useful features that make up the Toyota Safety Sense, including:

  • Pre-Collison System^ - Scans the road ahead for any potential hazards like pedestrians, vehicles or cyclists, and activates when there is a possibility of a rear-end collision.
  • Road Sign Assist – Views the road signs ahead of the vehicle, like speed limits and overtaking restrictions. It will then monitor your car’s current position or speed and will make any necessary changes and provide visual or acoustic warnings.
  • Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control – Aims to keep you at the minimum pre-set distance from the vehicle in front, so you have a better reaction response. If your distance falls, the system will automatically reduce your speed, apply the brake, then activate the brake light. If the vehicle ahead of you stops, the system will also bring you to a complete stop. Just gently push the accelerator or the Adaptive Cruise Control switch to re-enable the system again.
  • Lane Trace Assist – Designed to make motorway driving easier by keeping you central in lane and will gently steer and assist your car if you start to drift from it.
  • Automatic High Beam System – Optimises visibility during the night to help all road users. The camera inside will detect the lights of oncoming vehicles and leading traffic, while keeping in mind any lights from street lights. It will use this information to automatically switch from high and low beams, so you can clearly see the road without distracting other road users.
  • Emergency Driving Stop System – If the system can’t detect a driver input for some time, it will start to use audible warnings to alert the driver. If it can’t detect the driver after this, the system will bring the vehicle to a gradual stop while ensuring the vehicle is kept safely in lane. Hazard lights will activate to warn other road users, and the doors will be unlocked to allow emergency services to easily access you if necessary.
