Hedge End Stars to take on London Marathon and the Spinnaker Tower

On Sunday 24th April, our very own Alex Domone (Group Board Director) and Steve Barrett (Sales Manager at Toyota Hedge End) will run the London Marathon in order to raise funds for one of Snows' partner charities, the Rose Road Association.

They’ll join an estimated 38,000 other runners for the 26.2 miles around London, after a record breaking total of 247,069 people entered the ballot for 2016’s race. They’ll journey past Blackheath, Greenwich, and The Isle of Dogs, before continuing on past London Bridge towards the finish line.

The London Marathon route will take Alex and Steve past some of the sights of the capital

Steve has taken part in races before, although this will be his first marathon. Alex is newer to training, and started to run in January. The day will be a challenge for them both, so in preparation for the big event both Alex and Steve have extended their training, including a couple of runs together in order to pace themselves. On the day, you’ll be able to track their progress using their running numbers – Alex: 46058 and Steve: 46059 – and the official Virgin Money London Marathon app for iPhone.

The team are hoping to raise £3,000 for the Rose Road Association collectively; they’re doing a fantastic job but they’re not quite there yet! If you’d like to offer your support to Alex and Steve, you can donate to their JustGiving pages here: Alex and Steve.

Best of luck to you both!

London Marathon 2016 Facts:

  • 247,069 people entered the ballot for 2016’s race
  • A total of 69 hopefuls will be attempting to set 55 new world records at the Virgin Money London Marathon
  • British ESA astronaut Tim Peake will become the first man to run a marathon in space on 24 April

The day before, Saturday 23rd April, Hedge End’s Holly Dalmas (Marketing and Database Administrator) and Ken Morgan (Lotus Brand Executive) will have abseiled down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower to raise monies for the Soldiers Sailors Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), a leading military charity.

They take on the 570ft tower at 9.30am, to be welcomed back down to the ground by a stunning range of over ninety supercars, including several Lotus models from Snows Lotus Hedge End such as the Evora 400. There will also be a BMW i8 on display from Snows BMW Portsmouth. Spectators will even be able to write messages of support onto a Koenigsegg CCX, which will have a specially donated full wrap by MotoFX for this purpose.

The Evora 400 will be making an appearance this weekend at the Spinnaker Tower

Other attractions at the event will include an auction where spectators could be in with a chance of winning a passenger place in a unique four-car convey tour of the area, and Ian Cook from Pop Bang Colour who will be creating a contemporary painting by the Tower.

If you would like to donate to either Holly or Ken for SSAFA, please visit them at Snows Hedge End, which hosts Lexus, Lotus, and Toyota. All spectators are welcome on Saturday 23rd, and abseiling will be taking place throughout the day. Come along to show your support!
