Electric & Hybrid Vehicles

Electric and Hybrid vehicle technology is charging ahead thanks to the vast environment benefits and Government policy change. Snows are proud to be supporting this movement with several manufacturers transitioning to zero emissions cars.

What's the difference between an EV, Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid?

Electric Vehicle (EV)

An EV is a car that runs solely on electric power; never petrol or diesel. The electricity that powers an electric car is stored in batteries before being used by electric motors that drive the car’s wheels; the addition of an fossil fuel engine would make it a hybrid.

Hybrid

Hybrid cars combine both a petrol engine with an electric powertrain and therefore cannot be considered a 'fully electric car'. These vehicles do have an electric motor and battery but they cannot be plugged in and charged. Instead, they capture energy when braking and convert the kinetic energy into electricity!

Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)

Plug-in Hybrids are similar to conventional hybrids as they both have an electric motor and internal combustion engine, except PHEV batteries can be charged by being plugged into the national grid by means of a cable, as you would an electric car.

Connectivity

Due to some power coming from an electric motor, electric and hybrid cars are capable of releasing far fewer emissions into the atmosphere than fossil fuel powered cars.

As EVs and hybrid cars rely on electric motors, fuel stops are needed less frequently and running costs are therefore kept to a minimum. Depending on your provider, charging an electric car at home can cost pennies.

Contrary to popular belief, electric and hybrid cars can offer vast performance benefits. Unlike traditionally powered vehicles, electric and hybrid vehicles are capable of delivering high levels of torque instantly; take the BMW i8 for example!

The futuristic nature of electric vehicles means that they usually feature the latest technologies before traditionally powered vehicles. These features often mean that they are better integrated into your life.
