BEV

​​Battery Electric Vehicle

Vehicles that use a motor powered solely by a battery.​

PHEV

​Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

A car with an engine as well as a reduced-range battery for a mix of hybrid and full-electric driving.​

kW​

​Kilowatt

​The measurement used when describing the power of the motor (used instead of an/or alongside bhp) and the output speed of a charger. ​

kWh​

​Kilowatt Hour

Used to measure the capacity of the battery and the amount of energy going into the battery from the charger. ​

CCS - Combined Charging System
Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles - UEEV
Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle - WLTP

Type 2

This is the type of charger most commonly featured on EVs in the UK. It has a flat edge at the top and can charge at speeds from around 7 to 22kW. ​

​​Combined Charging System

​This combines the Type 2 charging connector (which use an AC connection) with two DC pins which allow for ultrafast charging.​

ULEV

​Ultra Low Emission Vehicle

These produce less than 75g og carbon dioxide per km.​

WLTP

Worldwide harmonised Light vehicle Test Procedure

A thorough emissions and efficiency test used as the official standard for testing vehicles.

What Electric Car Grants Are Available?​

To help cover a portion of the costs towards buying a new electric car or a hybrid car, there are multiple electric car grants available with our new vehicle offers. 

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Snows Deposit - Specifically designed for our Snows customers to go towards your vehicle.
  • Finance Deposit Contribution - Funded by the franchise's finance company.
  • Manufacturer Deposit Contribution - Funded by the manufacturer of the vehicle. 
  • Government Grant - Up to £3,750 to go towards your vehicle, funded by the Government.

Running Costs of Electric Cars, Hybrid Cars, or a Plug-in Hybrid Car

Just like owning a petrol or diesel car, EVs come with running costs that can add up over a year.

These can include:

  • Electricity costs - If you own an electric car or a plug-in hybrid car.
  • Fuel costs - If you own a hybrid car.
  • Maintenance costs - Annual MOT, service or repair costs.
  • Home Wall Charging Box + Installation - If you own an electric or plug-in hybrid car.
  • Road Tax - A yearly charge, based on when your vehicle was registered.

Charging an Electric Car and a Plug-in Hybrid Car

Charging an electric car or a plug-in hybrid car is incredibly easy, thanks to the increased popularity of purchasing EV vehicles.

There are two options for charging an electric or plug-in hybrid car. One is through home wall box charging, where you install a wall box in your home, and you can conveniently charge your vehicle when you need it. Alternatively, you can charge your car by using public charging points across the country, whether you don't own a wall box or you are on the go.

How much do EVs typically cost to run?

EV charging rates differ depending on where you charge and what speed you charge at - home charging can cost as low as 5-10p/kWh overnight, whilst public fast charging can cost around upwards of 60-70p/kWh.​​

What range do EVs normally have?

EV ranges are normally designed around what the vehicle is intended for - city EVs have a lower range as there are more charging options, whilst SUVs have some of the longest ranges available to allow for charge-free journeys.​​

How easy is it to charge an EV?

Very easy! Putting an EV on charge takes seconds and can be done with both home chargers and public chargers - in terms of public chargers, there are over 75,000 public points in the UK (as of March 2025). Charging speeds vary per vehicle and charger, but the fastest charging speeds can get a vehicle from 10% to 80% in around 20-30 minutes.

How well does an EV last?

EV architectures are engineered to stay as optimal as possible for as long as possible - this means that in some EVs, the battery can retain around 90% of it's original capacity after 10 years of driving.​​
