Electric and Hybrid vehicle technology is charging ahead thanks to the vast environment benefits and Government policy change. Snows are proud to be supporting this movement with several manufacturers transitioning to zero emissions cars.
Electric Vehicle (EV)
An EV is a car that runs solely on electric power; never petrol or diesel. The electricity that powers an electric car is stored in batteries before being used by electric motors that drive the car’s wheels; the addition of an fossil fuel engine would make it a hybrid.
Hybrid
Hybrid cars combine both a petrol engine with an electric powertrain and therefore cannot be considered a 'fully electric car'. These vehicles do have an electric motor and battery but they cannot be plugged in and charged. Instead, they capture energy when braking and convert the kinetic energy into electricity!
Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
Plug-in Hybrids are similar to conventional hybrids as they both have an electric motor and internal combustion engine, except PHEV batteries can be charged by being plugged into the national grid by means of a cable, as you would an electric car.
