Snows Isle of Wight sponsors the first
South Island Sevens Rugby Tournament.

Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd May 2022

Snows sponsors the inaugural South Island Sevens welcoming 800 players from as far and wide as Jamaica and Fiji.

Snows Isle of Wight will sponsor the inaugural South Island Sevens at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, featuring 16 elite men's and eight elite women's rugby sevens teams
on the Saturday and a further 24 social sides on the Sunday.

In excess of 800 players from teams hailing from as far and wide as Fiji, South Africa, Jamaica and Nigeria will descend on Watcombe Bottom,
the home of Ventnor RFC for the weekend of fast-paced, seven a side rugby.

Bath RFC (Women's team) will the also compete and Isle of Wight rugby players have combined for the first time to create a representative Sevens team, the "South Island Sundays”.

Two winners from 24 Isle of Wight school sides will compete for the Schools Trophy in front of 2,500 Sevens spectators.

The South Island Sevens has been devised by Chris Fletcher as a way of making rugby more attractive to Islanders and most importantly, to fund the development of youth rugby on the Island.

Chris said: “The driving force behind the event is to engage Isle of Wight children in sport and to instil in them the benefits to their health and mental wellbeing. I have given 600 free tickets to Isle of Wight schools and clubs. In addition, we have already sold 500 spectator tickets and 130 places in hospitality. We hope to have 2,500-plus on site for the elite competition on the Saturday.

“We are immensely grateful to Snows for its sponsorship and genuine support for this great new event. Sports sponsorships when run correctly are a powerful tool. The Snows sponsorship is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when proactive companies partner with sporting entities. The event would look very different without their support. The influence Snows will have on participation in sport across all ages on the Isle of Wight is substantial, they should be applauded for it.”

Family-run Snows has a network of over 48 dealerships, representing 18 brands and employing nearly 1,000 people. Its showrooms in Newport provide the island’s motorists with Sales, Servicing and Parts for Abarth, BMW, Fiat, MINI and SEAT vehicles. In addition, the site houses its used car Too Good To Auction site.

Diana Mackinnon, Head of Business at Snows BMW & MINI, said: “Snows is absolutely delighted to be the headline sponsors for such an innovative and exciting project in its inaugural year. The opportunity to be involved in promoting fun, health and fitness on the Island was too good an opportunity to miss. We wish the organisers, participants, and spectators very best wishes for a fabulous weekend.”

The South Island Sevens will see elite teams compete for the South Island Sevens Knockout Trophies and share a prize fund of £1,500.
