Snows Sponsored Hampshire Rugby Team Win County Championship Shield

On Sunday 29th May 2016, Hampshire met Staffordshire at a thrilling match at Twickenham stadium… and returned home triumphant! At their first senior visit to the prestigious rugby ground since 1962, Hampshire achieved five tries, achieving a victory of 33-11 against their Midland counterparts.

Snows has been sponsoring the team since 2011, and has a history of sporting success itself, with staff who have taken part in the Olympics across several years. The team at Hampshire Rugby impressed at Twickenham, sporting their Snows branded kit as they raised their trophy in front of the Royal Box for the first time, having fought off the opposition with extraordinary vigour to become 2016 champions.

Staffordshire stormed onto the pitch in the first half, but Hampshire held their own, earning the lead at 22 minutes. The opening try came from fly-half Pierre-Alex Clark, who intercepted a Staffordshire pass and made it virtually across the length of the pitch to success. His team mates – brothers Wes and Wayne Dugan, and Alex Sutherland – followed suit, picking up the gauntlet and ensuring that Hampshire had the advantage by half time, despite the territorial benefit which had belonged to the opposing team.

In the second half, Staffordshire once again emerged in full force, catching up with Hampshire thanks to a well worked try and a couple of penalties. However, Hampshire pulled way ahead again as Wes Dugan scored a try and Alex Sutherland converted. Soon after, Pierre-Alex Clark paved the way for Joel Knight to score Hampshire’s fourth try, and Gavin Hart achieved the fifth during injury time, bringing the final score to Hampshire 33 – 11 Staffordshire.

Garry Doherty, Honorary Secretary and Executive Director at Hampshire Rugby, told Snows, ‘This achievement is a tribute to the Team Manager Simon Burns who has worked tirelessly preparing the squad for each game culminating in victory at Twickenham. The squad have been magnificent.

To see the Hampshire County flag flying above Twickenham was quite something and to win at Twickenham for the first time in 49 years is something I will never forget. Right now confidence levels are incredibly high’.

Snows looks forward to continuing its support of Hampshire Rugby in the future, and offers their sincere congratulations to the team, who celebrated at their end of season dinner last week.
