More than 40 years after it began trading, award-winning contractor Terry Harris & Sons is running its first Mercedes-Benz vans, five small Citans that offer exemplary economy.

All 109 CDI PURE models, they have been allocated by the Cornish company to its site foremen, who are responsible for overseeing work on high-end residential developments across the north of the county.

The Citans are smartly finished in Magnetite Grey and were supplied by Mercedes-Benz Van Centre Exeter. They have replaced Terry Harris & Sons previous, French-built vehicles, which the Dealer took in part-exchange. The company plans to operate its new vans for three years, during which they will be maintained under a cost-effective Mercedes-Benz ServiceCare plan.

The Citan is the smallest van ever to wear a three-pointed star, and offers exemplary comfort, practicality, reliability, and safety. It is also a big winner at the pumps. Packed with clever features, Terry Harris & Sons’ long-bodied 109 CDI L2s deliver outstanding economy in the combined cycle of up to 65.7 mpg, and CO2 emissions as low as 112 g/km.

The fourth-generation family business is a residential property specialist and operates from premises on the Highfield Business Park in Rock, where its in-house joinery workshop manufactures windows and doors, as well as other bespoke items in timber.

The winner of a number of building industry awards, Terry Harris & Sons undertakes new build and renovation projects, many involving high-value properties throughout Cornwall, and offers complementary civil engineering and landscaping services.

While always open to new technology, the company is also committed to the protection of traditional craft skills within its talented workforce, and proud of its successful apprentice scheme.

Directors Julian and Steve Harris, whose father Terry, now 86, established the company in 1979, believe that given the profile of its clientele the Mercedes-Benz brand image is key to the Citan’s appeal. “The three-pointed star is synonymous with quality and certainly helps to separate our new vehicles from the rest,” said Julian Harris.

No less important was the customer-focused service they received from Nicola Townsend, Corporate Sales Manager at Mercedes-Benz Van Sales Manager Exeter. “We were really impressed with Nicola’s enthusiasm and efficiency,” added Steve Harris. “She’s very professional and was a pleasure to deal with.”
